Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Punjab tour today. During this, there was a huge lapse in his security when he was on his way to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by road due to bad weather. His way was blocked by protesters at a flyover about 30 km before the martyr memorial and after a long wait of 15-20 minutes, the PM’s convoy returned to the Bhatinda airport.
Bhatinda airport officials told ANI that on his return to the Bathinda airport, PM Modi told the officials there, “Thank you to your CM. I was able to return alive till Bathinda airport.”
What is the whole matter?
In Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got stuck on a flyover for 15 to 20 minutes on Wednesday when some protesters blocked the road while going by road. The Union Home Ministry has termed the incident as a “serious lapse” in the security of the Prime Minister. The Home Ministry said in a statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy decided to return after a serious security breach during his visit to Punjab.
The statement also said that the ministry has asked the Punjab government to fix accountability for this lapse and take strict action. The Prime Minister was on his way from Bathinda to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala when the incident took place.
Punjab government was informed about PM’s program
The Punjab government was informed in advance about the Prime Minister’s schedule and travel plans. As per the procedure they had to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keeping contingency plans ready. Also in view of the contingency plan, the Punjab government had to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which was clearly lacking.
