Mumbai: The Indian film industry has lost one of its most talented behind-the-scenes artists, renowned makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad, who passed away in Mumbai on Saturday, May 10. His death marks the end of an era of makeup artistry where his skills transformed countless film characters into screen legends. The news sent shockwaves across the industry and many celebrities including Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Mrunal Thakur condoled his death.
National Award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad, known for his work in films like ’83’, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, ‘Dangal’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, died at a Mumbai hospital on Saturday. Vikram’s death was confirmed by his younger brother.
Vikram K’s younger brother Dr. Prasanna Paranjape told the media, “He was admitted to Hiranandani Hospital in Powai three days ago due to blood pressure problems. He passed away today (May 10) at around 8:30 am. His blood pressure was low, due to which we could not save him. However, when he was admitted here, he was fine. We did not expect at all that he would pass away so soon.’

He was a true master of his craft and his work transformed many actors into memorable characters who will live on the screen forever.’

Vikram Gaikwad has been awarded the National Award
Vikram Gaikwad was awarded the National Film Award for Best Makeup Artist in 2010 for a Bengali film ‘Moner Manush’. According to media reports, he won this award a record seven times.
