Jhansi: A major accident occurred due to fire in the children’s ward of the local medical college late on Friday night. In this terrible fire, 10 newborn children were burnt to death. Many children were rescued by breaking the window of the child ward. Many top officials of the administration including the District Magistrate were present. The fire brigade employees controlled the fire. Police force from many police stations also had to be called to the spot. So far, the administration has confirmed the death of 10 children. Out of these, 7 children have been identified, while 3 children could not be identified.
Many children were rescued: The crying and distraught family members are seen wandering in the hospital looking for their children. At present, the reason behind the fire is being said to be a short circuit. At the time of the accident, about 49 newborn children were admitted in the NICU ward. DM Avinash Kumar has confirmed the death of 10 children. About 39 babies were rescued. Many of these children are injured. They are being treated and monitored. The age of the children admitted in the medical college is being reported to be from one day to one month.
CM Yogi ordered investigation, officers will give report in 12 hours: Meanwhile, the state CM Yogi, taking cognizance of the incident, has sent Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and Principal Secretary to Jhansi. Along with this, the CM has ordered Jhansi Commissioner and DIG to investigate the accident. These officers will have to give a report in 12 hours. Maharani Laxmibai Medical College is the biggest hospital in Bundelkhand. People from many districts of the area come here for treatment.
The accident is being reported between 10 and 10.30 pm. Seeing smoke coming out of the ward, people raised an alarm, but by the time anyone understood anything, the fire had spread. Most of the children died due to smoke and burns. There was chaos in the hospital premises.
Kanpur ADG Zone took stock of the situation: On the instructions of the Chief Minister, Kanpur Zone ADG Alok Singh also reached the medical college to take stock of the incident. He first inspected the NICU. After this, he reached the emergency and took information about the ongoing treatment of the injured. He said that a report will be prepared and submitted to the Chief Minister. At the same time, parents of many children are still seen searching for their children.
Short circuit in oxygen concentrator: On the instructions of CM Yogi, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Principal Secretary Health also reached Jhansi. District Magistrate Avinash Kumar said that 10 children have died. Treatment of other children is going on. A short circuit in the oxygen concentrator in the ward caused a fire. The age of the newborn children admitted for treatment is from 1 day to 1 month. The CM has taken cognizance of the incident. It is being investigated by the Commissioner and DIG.
This is the second fire accident in the medical college: Former Union Minister Pradeep Jain Aditya, who reached the medical college, said that this is the second fire accident in the medical college. Many children were saved with the help of doctors and staff. Infection is spreading rapidly among the children who have been injured in the fire. The injured children should be shifted to Safdarjung Burn Unit for immediate treatment.
Action will be taken against the culprits: State Minister Manohar Lal Panth, who arrived on behalf of the government, said that he has been sent on the orders of the Chief Minister. He discussed with all the officials present, including the CMO. He has asked to give proper treatment to the injured children. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation.
Babina MLA of Jhansi Rajiv Singh Parichha, who reached the hospital on the instructions of the Chief Minister, said that the incident has turned into an accident. We are with all the family members.
