Prayagraj. The west area of Prayagraj city is considered to be the stronghold of Mafia Atiq Ahmed. In 1989, Atiq won the independent elections from here. After this, he kept on coming in the field on the ticket of SP, Apna Dal and kept winning. After becoming an MP from Phulpur, Bhai Ashraf was contested on this seat. From 1989 to 2017, Mafia Atiq Ahmed and his family members kept contesting from here. This is the first time that mafia Atiq Ahmed and no member of his family are contesting from here.
Mafia Ateeq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen had joined All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM). Last year in Atala, party’s national president Asaduddin Owaisi had also declared Shaista Parveen as the candidate from the city western seat by holding a public meeting. There was a pause on Tuesday for his contesting elections. He has not enrolled. It is discussed that Atiq is in jail and both the sons are absconding, due to which he left the field.
Things changed after the candidate was announced. At the end of last year, a case was registered against Shaista Parveen’s younger son Ali and he absconded. After this the speculation of not contesting the elections started. However, AIMIM Divisional Spokesperson Officer Mahmood continued to say that she would contest the elections. Was told to file nomination on 7th February but he did not file nomination even on the last date 8th February. It was decided that he left the field.
The political legacy of Atiq Ahmed, former MP and mafia from Phulpur in Prayagraj, is completely over. Not only the illegal property of Atiq Ahmed, who was elected five-time MLA from City West and once MP from Phulpur, but his political party has also been bulldozed by the BJP government. Atiq Ahmed’s politics started from 1989. Then he won the election from City West as an independent candidate. After that, the SP, Apna Dal and Independent continued to contest elections as a candidate and continued to win. MP was also elected from Phulpur seat of Prayagraj. Once Atiq Ahmed used to decide victory and defeat in many seats, but now he himself has gone beyond politics.
