Bareilly. Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested two people from Uttarakhand for spreading fake notes in Baheri area of Bareilly district. Police have also recovered 897 fake notes of Rs 100 from the accused hailing from Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.
The accused arrested on Thursday have been identified as Shafiq Ahmed and Daulat Ram.
The accused were caught exchanging counterfeit notes by giving 30 per cent genuine currency notes from a supplier in Uttarakhand.
The police have registered a case against them under sections 489-B (using currency notes as genuine) and 489-C (possession of counterfeit or counterfeit notes). Police said that it will take the accused on remand to trace other gang members.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Agrawal said, “The accused said that they were receiving fake currency from Uttarakhand. We have shared the details with intelligence agencies to ascertain whether there is any link with any terrorist organisation. ”
The additional SP also said, “Several teams have been sent to Uttarakhand to trace the kingpin. We are also taking cooperation of local police. The accused will be sent to jail now, but we will apply for their remand custody.”
