This child has won the battle of life after being on ventilator for three days. He was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
Dr. Vishal Kaushik, Assistant Professor and Pediatrician of the Department of Pediatrics at Doon Medical College Hospital, said that on April 18, a family had reached the emergency of the hospital with their seven-month-old baby. The child was corona infected. Upon which he was immediately sent under the supervision of physicians of the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Kaushik said that even after applying artificial oxygen to the child’s body, the oxygen level was 80 percent and he was having difficulty in breathing. Due to lack of salt in the body, the child was suffering from seizures. Pneumonia also appeared in the X-ray.
In view of the delicate condition of the child, the team of Pediatrics Department hurriedly placed her on a ventilator. Three days later, upon some improvement, the child was removed from the ventilator and placed on oxygen in the ICU. Also, the first two days were fed through IB Fluid and after that two days with feeding. Then the team of doctors agreed to drink mother’s milk. Thursday the child’s corona report came negative. He was also now drinking mother’s milk properly.
Dr. Kaushik said that this family is originally from Haldwani. The child’s father works in a factory in Paonta Sahib (Himachal Pradesh). After showing in the primary hospitals there, Doon reached the Doon Hospital after traveling around all the small and big hospitals of Dehradun.
