Guwahati. Two years ago, the accused of raping and killing a five-year-old girl was sentenced to death by a district court in northern Assam. Accused Mangal Pike was sentenced to death by Judge Dipankar Bora of the Vishwanath District Additional Sessions Court, convicting Pike under Section 376 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. The case relates to sexual offenses with Section 302 (murder).
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Poxo) Act and also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000.
Under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC, the court sentenced the accused to seven years in jail besides imposing a fine of Rs 3,000.
The man seduced the little girl by taking her to a deserted place in a tea garden (under the Suteena police station area) where she was strangled and raped in November 2018.
According to the police, the accused, who hail from Lohra Burhagaon area of nearby Sonitpur district, was a relative of the victim and seldom came to his house for some work.
Public prosecutor Jahnavi Kalitha told the media that during the trial, all 16 witnesses including doctors, policemen and villagers were questioned.
