Gorakhpur. The gang leader Manoj Mandal, who is based in Jharkhand, recruits thieves on a salary of Rs 15,000 per month. Most of them are minors. They steal mobile phones from trains, stations and various markets. For this, they are given food expenses along with travel allowance by the gang. Salary and allowances are also increased based on success in theft.
This information was received by the Gorakhpur Government Railway Police when three suspects were caught during the investigation of the station premises. The police recovered 44 mobile phones worth Rs 10 lakh, a pistol, cartridges and a knife from them.
SP Railway Sandeep Kumar Meena said that information was received about the presence of a gang in Gorakhpur that steals mobile phones on trains and platforms. After this, Vijay Kumar Singh, in-charge of GRP station Gorakhpur, was checking the railway station premises.

During this, three suspects were seen roaming around near the clock gate. On suspicion, the GR police took them into custody. The accused were identified as Manoj Mandal, a resident of Maharapur in Taljhari, Sahibganj district of Jharkhand, and Karan Kumar Nonia of Teen Pahad village. One of their companions is a minor.
All three were produced in court on Friday. From there, Manoj Mandal and Karan Kumar were sent to jail and the minor to the juvenile home. During interrogation and investigation, it was found that the gang leader Manoj Mandal makes the gang members commit theft by paying them a salary of Rs 15,000 per month. This gang is very active in trains and markets.
This gang steals mobile phones from people’s pockets and bags at various public places. Then sells them in Nepal and Bangladesh. More than half a dozen cases of theft are registered against Manoj in Gorakhpur and Azamgarh districts. The accused Karan Kumar has been sent to jail twice by the Cantt police station.
