Senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar is set to travel to the West Indies to meet head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma to discuss the roadmap for the ICC ODI World Cup, starting October 5 in Ahmedabad. India will start their World Cup campaign against Australia (Ind vs Aus) on 8th October in Chennai.
Agarkar will meet the team
After this, on October 15, India will have a match with tough rival Pakistan (Ind vs Pak) at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. A BCCI source told news agency PTI that Salil Ankola is currently in the West Indies but will return after the Test series is over.
Ajit will meet the team ahead of the start of the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies (Ind vs WI). In such a situation, what will be India’s strategy going forward in the World Cup, this will be the first opportunity for Agarkar to discuss all this. In this discussion, a blueprint will be prepared on the preparations of the team.
Players will be discussed-
Apart from dealing with fitness issues and workload management, the team management and selection committee need to coordinate the core 20 players they think are fit to play in the World Cup. Together with the chairman of the selection committee (Ajit Agarkar), the team management will also discuss the transition plan.
Jasprit Bumrah will be discussed-
In this meeting, the fitness status of Jasprit Bumrah and his inclusion or not in the tour of Ireland for the three-match T20 series will be discussed in detail. The Sports Science and Medical Unit of the National Cricket Academy is yet to issue a (return to play) certificate to Bumrah.
Dravid will be given rest-
Meanwhile, VVS Laxman will be the head coach of the team for the one-off tour of Ireland. He has been selected as the head coach of the team for these short tours, where Dravid is rested as Team India has very short tours between West Indies and Ireland.
