A retired IPS officer committed suicide by shooting himself in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The former IPS shot himself with his licensed revolver on Tuesday at his residence in Gomti Nagar area. Before he died, he wrote in his suicide note, “I am losing my strength and health”.
A senior police officer said on Tuesday, ‘Dinesh Kumar Sharma (73), a 1975 batch IPS officer, shot himself at his home in Vishal Khand. His body was found in his room on Tuesday morning. Police has also recovered a suicide note from the room.
Former IPS Sharma wrote in his suicide note, ‘I am committing suicide because I cannot bear the anxiety and depression. I am losing my strength and health, no one else is responsible for this. After writing the suicide note, he shot himself on the temple with his revolver. That revolver has also been found in the room itself. Police said the body of the former officer was found on a chair.
Officers who committed suicide had retired from DG rank
Former IPS Dinesh Kumar Sharma was undergoing treatment for depression. DG Security Vinod Kumar Singh said, ‘The body was recovered from Sharma’s room in the morning. He was a good officer and I had family relations with him. He was also a very good cricketer and used to be a part of the IPS cricket team.
The former IPS officer retired from the post of DG (Housing Corporation) of UP Police in the year 2010 and lived in Lucknow. Additional Commissioner (ACP) Shweta Chowdhary said that the room where the former IPS committed suicide has been sealed and the revolver seized.
