A man arrested for allegedly killing a 21-year-old college student on Monday was trying to snatch the inspector’s pistol when his money was shot, police said. The accused have been identified as Raj Ahirwar alias Aatish and Rohit alias Govinda.
Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja said that the motorcycle-borne men shot her in the head at around 11.30 a.m. when the college student was returning after giving her exams and fled. The woman’s parents lodged a complaint against Raj Ahirwar, on the basis of which a case was registered against him and he was arrested.
In a statement, the police said that after killing the woman, Ahirwar hid the number plate of his motorcycle under the Pachokhar culvert and threw his clothes in the Betwa river to hide his identity. He said that when the police team took Ahirwar to the culvert, he snatched the pistol of the inspector and fired at the policemen. In the retaliatory firing, the accused received a bullet injury in his leg and was taken to a hospital, police said.
Another accused Rohit alias Govind, who is Ahirwar’s cousin, is missing. Efforts are on to nab him. Regarding the motive behind the murder, the police said that Ahirwar and the woman were in touch for the last one year. Since they belonged to the same caste, their family members agreed to marry them, but two months ago the woman stopped talking to him, which upset the accused. When the woman refused to meet him, he killed her, police said.
