New Delhi. Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh said on Tuesday that the spin bowlers of Team India are seen struggling in the middle overs in ODI cricket. He said it is time to look beyond Ravichandran Ashwin in this format and bring back the combination of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. This spin pair is known as ‘Kulcha’. Recently, India had to face 3-0 defeat in the three-match ODI series played against South Africa. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal were seen struggling. On the other hand, the trio of South African spinners Tabrez Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj and part-time bowler Aiden Markram bowled brilliantly.
35-year-old Ashwin returned to the ODI team after 2017. He took only one wicket in two matches before replacing Jayant Yadav in the third ODI. Yuzvendra Chahal, on the other hand, also took only two wickets and struggled in front of the opposition batsmen. The former India off-spinner feels that both Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken a defensive stand against South African batsmen and says there is no harm in trying Chahal and Kuldeep.
Talking to India Today, Harbhajan said, ‘Have full respect for R Ashwin. He is a champion bowler, but I think in ODI cricket it is time for India to look for an alternative. Maybe a bowler who can take the ball in and out. A bowler like Kuldeep Yadav can be a good option. Why don’t we go back to the Kulcha combination? He won matches for India. It would be good to go back to him.
