The Election Commission of India reached Lucknow on Tuesday on a three-day tour to take stock of the preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections. The team is headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra. Election commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anoop Chandra Pandey along with 13-member team of the commission held a meeting with the representatives of political parties on the first day. Delegations of BJP, SP, BSP, Congress and RLD met the Election Commission separately and lodged necessary suggestions and objections. The SP made allegations of misuse of government machinery and money in the public meetings of BJP leaders. Asked the commission to put a stop to this.
The delegation led by SP State President Naresh Uttam Patel and KK Srivastava has asked to provide the list of voters above 80 years of age and differently abled, assembly wise, polling place wise, demanding free and fair elections. In the upcoming assembly elections, such voters are being given the option to vote from home for the first time. Apart from providing the list of critical polling places, assembly wise, polling places wise, suggestions and objections should be taken from political parties. Duplicate names should be removed from the voter list so that bogus voting can be stopped. At the same time, after the counting of votes is over, if more than 50 percent of the VVPATs are demanded by any candidate to be re-counted.
The BSP told the Election Commission that elections are a festival of democracy. No one should be allowed to obstruct it in any way. Elections should be held on time. In order to instill confidence in the public in conducting elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner, it is necessary that the Election Commission, especially the Model Code of Conduct, should be strictly implemented. The way rallies and road shows are being held even in the most critical times of Corona is also a clear violation of the election code of conduct. At the same time, the way the politics of narrow selfishness is being done by giving religious color to the elections, the Election Commission also needs to adopt a strict legal attitude.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress demanded from the Election Commission to conduct the upcoming assembly elections under the supervision of central security forces instead of the supervision of Uttar Pradesh Police. On behalf of Congress, Omkar Nath Singh and Virendra Madan said that question marks are constantly being raised on the impartiality of the state government and police. Many officers sitting in high positions are misusing the official position by retweeting the tweets of Union Ministers, it is not hidden from anyone.
The BJP has demanded the deployment of a woman security guard at every booth so that the Burkanshi women can be identified if required. Also there should be security arrangements. The BJP delegation led by State General Secretary JPS Rathore and MLC Arvind Kumar Sharma said that the votes of all the voters of a family should be at the same booth. If there are booths in densely populated areas, the Kovid protocol will not be followed properly, so worrying about it in advance, the booths should be shifted and made in open places.
Under the leadership of National Secretary of Rashtriya Lok Dal, Anil Dubey, a three-member delegation should ensure that the guidelines of Corona are followed equally by all parties. 50 percent VVPAT matching should be allowed on the demand of the candidate. The list of 80 years old and differently-abled voters should be made available to all political parties. The same person is a voter in different constituencies, he should be eliminated and he should be kept as a voter in the same place. People holding high positions in the government should be banned from saying anti-constitutional things.
