PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the International Airport (Jewar Airport) of Gautam Buddh Nagar in Noida on Thursday. This airport will prove to be a milestone for the industrial, economic and tourism development of the state. The program will start today at 1 pm. According to the PMO, this airport is located near Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad and its adjoining areas and it will serve only the people there.
After this airport, Uttar Pradesh will become the only state in the country to have international air transit centres.
Here are the important things related to the airport:
- Jewar airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL). The company is a 100% subsidiary of the project’s Swiss concessionaire Zurich International Airport AG.
- Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) is developing the airport under PPP model in close partnership with Government of Uttar Pradesh and Government of India.
- The airport is spread over 1300 hectares of land.
- It is a greenfield airport which will be built in four phases. The first phase will be operational in 2024. The project cost of Phase 1 is Rs 8,916 crore.
- After the completion of the first phase, 12 million passengers are expected to travel every year. Once the last phase is completed between 2040 and 2050, it will be capable of handling 7 crore passengers every year.
- Jewar Airport will be located 72 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and 40 km from Noida.
- The airport is being envisioned as a ground transportation hub, which will be a multimodal transit hub due to its proximity to the existing Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway and will also be linked to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad district of Haryana.
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that till 2017 only two airports were functioning in Uttar Pradesh, but now with the regional connectivity scheme of the central government coming into play, there are nine functional airports in the state.
- After reviewing the preparations for PM Modi’s visit on Tuesday, Adityanath said that new airports are being planned near Sonbhadra, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, Azamgarh and Shravasti.
- The state government has said that the Noida International Airport at Jewar will generate employment opportunities for lakhs of people.
