Colombo. India’s limited overs team, captained by Shikhar Dhawan, began their maiden practice session under floodlights at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday. The Indian team has to play a three-match ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka, starting from July 18. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared its picture on the Internet media.
BCCI wrote along with the picture, “Time to hit the nets, our first practice session at the floodlights begins now.” Let us tell you that on the tour of Sri Lanka, the Indian team will play all the matches at night, as the ODI matches will run from noon to night, while the starting time of T20 matches is from 7 pm. In such a situation, practice in floodlights is also necessary, because the cricketer has not played cricket for a long time.
This will be India’s last limited overs series before the World Cup to be held in October-November. There are six players in the team in the form of Chetan Sakaria, K Gautam, Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal, Varun Chakraborty and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who are yet to have experience of playing international cricket. Apart from this, this series is important for Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav and Suryakumar Yadav, as they will try to do well in it to seal their place in the World Cup squad.
India will play a series of three ODIs and as many T20Is on this tour, starting with the first ODI on July 18. It is believed that under the coaching of Rahul Dravid, some new players can get a chance to debut. However, it is unlikely that all the players will get a chance to debut, as the team that toured Sri Lanka has more than 20 members.
