Noida. In the investigation of UP Police, the incident of robbery with journalist Atul Agarwal has turned out to be completely fake. The police have termed the alleged robbery incident with them in Noida Extension as wrong. Police say that no such incident has been confirmed.
In fact, recently, Hindi Khabar editor-in-chief Atul Agarwal had alleged in a Facebook post that last week armed assailants robbed him of Rs 5,000 near Noida Extension. The journalist did not register an FIR, of course, but the police took suo motu cognizance of his social media posts and investigated.
Noida Police said in a statement, ‘A team of five COG officers investigated the matter. We checked all electronic and CCTV evidence related to the alleged incident. The journalist had alleged that the robbery took place near Hindon bridge at around 1 pm after which they went home. The CCTV footage showed that they reached the Oyo hotel room in Sector 121 after 1 am where they spent the night. The distance between the hotel room and their house indicates that it is not possible that the incident took place there.
Police further said, all the evidence points to the fact that there was no incident of robbery with Atul Aggarwal. He had uploaded the false story on social media due to personal reasons. In his social media post, a Noida resident journalist had claimed that he was in his safari car when five men on a motorcycle stopped him near a police booth in Bisrakh.
Agarwal had claimed that when he lowered his window, one of the accused pulled out a gun and asked him to hand over his valuables. He claimed that he was forced to pay Rs 5,000 and the accused tried to strangle him. He had claimed that one of the accused took the phone from him and got it unlocked. After this the miscreants caught sight of the press sticker and they recognized them. Then they left by throwing the phone on the backseat and threatening them not to inform anyone about the incident and fled on the bike.
