Kabul. At least 24 Taliban militants were killed and 15 others injured in an encounter with Afghan security forces in Kunduz province here. An official gave this information on Saturday. The official told Xinhua news agency that 16 militants were killed and 10 others injured in an overnight operation in Seh Darak, Inayat and Zakhil areas of Kunduz city, 250 km north of Kabul.
The city of Kunduz has been witness to sporadic clashes in recent days as Taliban militants try to take control of the city. The operation, including night raids, would continue before ridding the city of terrorists, the official said. He said that no casualty was reported from the security forces during the fighting.
In addition, eight Taliban militants were killed when Afghan National Army soldiers opened fire with militants at several places in the city of Kunduz late on Friday, an army source said. Taliban militants fighting government forces have so far not commented on the incidents.
