Miami. A 40-year-old high-rise building collapsed in a few seconds just in front of the sea in Miami, Florida state, USA. So far one person has died in this accident, while 100 people are missing. No trace of them has been found so far. The rescue team has so far rescued 102 people safely. The local police along with the fire department team is also cooperating to rescue the people trapped under the debris. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levin Cava told reporters that 102 people had been evacuated for about 18 hours after the building collapsed. Miami-Dade Police Director Freddy Ramirez said rescue operations continued day and night. He said that it is a dangerous site right now. Ramirez said his team is still in rescue mode.
The mayor of Miami said the building is 12-story and has more than 130 units. He said that the rescue work would continue till every person in the building was evacuated. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said many of those rescued had serious injuries. They have been asked to be sent to local hospitals for treatment. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman told CNN that 51 people were reported to be living inside the building. He said that this building was constructed in the year 1981. A building was under construction on the site next to this building. He said structural engineers were working with firefighters to shore up the remainder of the building.
