Lucknow. A youth resident of Thakurganj, hiding the religion, married the young woman in a bluff. After this, pressure was put on him to convert. Not only this, an attempt to get children circumcised. Accused of protesting the woman, including the children, locked her in the house and set fire to it from outside. Women and children narrowly survived. The police have registered an FIR on the victim’s complaint.
According to the woman, on 13 February 2009, the woman had married a young man named Rajiv in the Arya Samaj temple. It is alleged that after marriage, the woman came to know that her husband’s real name is Mohammad Afzal Siddiqui. Afzal, claiming to be an orphan, took the woman in a lurch and got married by hiding his name. The woman complained about the case to the police several times, but there was no hearing. At around eight o’clock on Wednesday night, Afzal locked the woman and her two children in the house and set them on fire. The woman called and reported the case on dial 112. After this, the fire was controlled with the help of the fire brigade and nearby people and the woman and her two children could be taken out safely.
Pressure created to make physical connection with others
It is alleged that Afzal was continuously pressurizing his wife to convert. The accused woman was asked to have sexual relations with seven people. Accused said that it would be converted only after making a physical relationship. Not only this, Afzal was pressurizing the victim to forcibly circumcise both the children. The victim says that in the past too, she complained to the Thakurganj police several times, but there was no hearing. The police have lodged an FIR against Afzal, his father, mother and other Maulanas under the victim’s murder case and UP Law under the Prevention of Conversion of Religion Prohibition Ordinance. However, the accused have not been arrested yet.
