new Delhi. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is soon to be equipped with modern technology drones to carry out effective action against the Naxalites. It is expected that this unmanned drone – ‘Micro UAV A-410’ will be available to CRPF by May. It will be an upgraded version of the UAV Eye-V2. It will weigh about six kg with arms and batteries. The CRPF has been using the Eye-V2 for years to act against rebel organizations in Naxal-affected areas. This UAV has proved to be very effective in surveillance, military-testing and rescue operations on several occasions.
However, the ‘Micro UAV A-410’ can fly at a speed of 35 km per hour and can fly continuously at an altitude of 600 meters for about an hour. It has two cameras (dual camera system) for day and night. The resolution of the daytime camera is 1,280 by 720 pixels. The resolution of the night camera with thermal imaging capacity is 640 x 480 pixels. Its landing and take-off is very smooth.
Sources told IANS that the ‘Made in India’ drone manufactured by Asteria Aerospace would be inducted into the CRPF fleet by the end of April or May. The estimated price of a ‘Micro UAV A-410’ can range from Rs 12 to 15 lakhs.
Sources said the procurement of this drone is only part of the process to further strengthen the CRPF before launching major action against Naxalites before the monsoon this year.
