Dehradun. The order to repeal the mandate to declare the Ganga stream flowing on the banks of Hara in Gangadwar Haridwar as an escape channel (canal) may be issued on Wednesday. This mandate was issued by the then Congress government in 2016. Since then demand has been raised to repeal it. Recently, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, while giving directions to repeal this mandate, had said that the status of the avir Ganga would be retained at Har Ki Paidi. According to sources, now all aspects have been churned in view of the repeal of this mandate.
During the tenure of the previous Congress government, it was declared an escape channel, considering the stream of Ganga flowing on the banks of Hara as not the main part of Ganga. In July this year, the matter was heated when the then Chief Minister and National General Secretary of Congress Harish Rawat expressed regret over the decision of his government in Haridwar. Then the BJP immediately attacked the Congress, seizing this issue.
At the same time, there was talk of correcting the mistake of Congress. It was said by the government that it would revoke the mandate on the escape channel. Recently, the officials of Ganga Sabha met Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on this issue. The Chief Minister had made it clear that the status of the uninterrupted Ganga in Harki Padi will remain. Also, there was talk of repealing the order regarding the escape channel and issuing a new order. Sources said that all aspects have now been studied in this regard. As soon as the green signal is received from the Chief Minister’s Office, an order will be issued to cancel the mandate on the escape channel.
