Lucknow . By-elections are being held for seven assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. In this, elections are being held on four seats due to the death of one MLA. Empathy is very important in electoral winds. It will be a litmus test of how important the issue of sympathy is in elections.
Chetan Chauhan, who was a batsman in the Indian cricket team, was elected as an MLA in 2017 from Naugawa assembly seat in Amroha district. He was playing an active role in politics after retiring from cricket. In Chauhan Yogi government, he was the minister of military welfare, home guard, PRD, civil security department. He died of a corona infection in the past. BJP has fielded his wife Sangeeta Chauhan on this seat. Chauhan has been very popular among the public. He was also an MP. Because of this he has been very much connected with the public. Chetan has empathy and party strength with his wife. The election results will tell how successful it will make him.
Virendra Sirohi, who was an MLA from Bulandshahar, had a good influence in the politics of the state. Sirohi reached the summit higher than usual. Virender Singh Sirohi became the revenue minister during Mayawati’s chief ministerial tenure in a coalition government formed by the BJP and the BSP. The BJP has fielded his wife Usha Sirohi in the seat vacated by his death.
Public attachment to Chetan and Sirohi is to be tested in the by-election. However, the BJP has given ticket to a person from outside the family instead of Kamalrani Varun, who was a cabinet minister in Ghatampur seat. Similarly, BJP did not give ticket to Ajay Singh, son of late Janmejaya Singh, in the Sadar seat of Deoria. He rebels, and the independents have jumped into the ground due to the sympathy of his father.
Apart from this, elections are being held in Malhani assembly seat of Jaunpur due to the death of Samajwadi Party MLA Parasnath Yadav. From here he has won elections many times. He also won in the BJP wave in 2017. The SP has nominated his son Lucky here. How much benefit will he get from his father’s legacy. How can we defeat BJP? Only those results will be able to tell.
Sometimes sympathy is also ineffective. An example of this has been seen in the Nurpur seat of Bijnor district. This seat, which was vacated by the death of BJP MLA Lokendra, was given a ticket by the BJP to his wife. But she could not win the election. From here, Naimul Hassan Vijay of SP had won.
Senior political analyst Rajeev Srivastava says that all parties have played the Sahnubhuti card in the by-election. Chetan Chauhan in Naugawa of Amroha, Virendra Sirohi from Bulandshahar and Paras Nath Yadav from Malhani Assembly had a big image of leaders in these three seats. These people have been connected with the people of their region. Empathy works in elections. An example of this was the sympathy won by Mathura Pal’s son Ajit in the Sikandara seat of Kanpur Dehat. Taking care of this, the party has placed bets on the ticket. He told that the sympathy factor definitely works in such elections.
