Sambhal. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has started investigating the antiquity of Sambhal’s pilgrimage sites. On Friday, a four-member team of ASI surveyed the Shiva temple of Khaggu Sarai, which was closed for 46 years, for eight hours from 5 am to 3.20 pm.
Apart from this, 19 wells including Chaturmukh Koop, Moksha Koop, Dharma Koop and five pilgrimage sites including Bhadrak Ashram, Swargdeep and Chakrapani were also surveyed. The experts in the team did photography and also collected other evidence.
After finding the Shiva temple in Khaggu Sarai, DM Dr. Rajendra Pansia had written a letter to ASI for carbon dating. On the instructions of ASI officials, the revenue workers had started measuring from Thursday itself. The DM said that the survey has been done. Information about antiquity will be available from the ASI report.
The campaign was run under the leadership of DM and SP
On 14th December, the team led by DM and SP to check the noise of loudspeakers in Muslim dominated Khaggu Sarai found a temple. It was closed after the 1978 riots. When the temple was opened, a Shiv temple and a statue of Hanuman ji were found. There was a well near the temple. On digging, three statues were found in it. Local people are saying that the temple is five hundred years old.
The DM had written a letter to ASI to confirm its antiquity. A team of four experts from Meerut and Delhi went to Sambhal and started the survey. The team also held a meeting with the officials in the evening.
Historical sites of Sambhal will be developed
DM Dr. Rajendra Pansiya said that earlier there was a plan to survey only the Shiv temple of Khaggu Sarai and the well near it. A letter was sent for this only. But, many historians mentioned 19 wells and 69 pilgrimages. Therefore, ASI was asked to survey other wells and five major pilgrimage sites. After its report comes, confirmed information about their antiquity will be available. After this, a plan for their development will be prepared.
