New Delhi. Pakistan’s Salima Imtiaz has created history by joining the ICC’s umpire panel. She became the first female umpire from Pakistan to be nominated to the ICC International Panel of Development Umpires. PCB has confirmed this on X handle.
It is worth noting that Imtiaz’s umpiring journey started in 2008, when she joined the PCB’s women umpire panel. Her passion for umpiring increased further with the international cricket debut of daughter Kainat. Imtiaz’s daughter Kainat made her debut against South Africa in 2010. Kainat has since played 40 matches for Pakistan, including 19 ODIs and 21 T20 Internationals.
Became inspiration for Pakistani women
Imtiaz said in a statement, this is not just my victory, it is the victory of every female cricketer and umpire of Pakistan. I hope my success will inspire countless women who dream of making their mark in the game.
Goal of umpiring at the big level
Salima further said, my own dream was to represent my country at the international level. I have got opportunities with the Asian Cricket Council, but umpiring at the big level has always been my goal.
Imtiaz’s first assignment in the international panel will be to umpire the three-match T20 series between Pakistan and South Africa women, which starts in Multan on Monday.
