Kanpur. There are reports of a train derailment between Kanpur and Bhimsen station. Railway officials said that 22 coaches of 19168 Sabarmati Express passenger train derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur in the early hours of Saturday. There is no news of any loss of life or injury in the accident. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rakesh Verma inspected the site of derailment of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad, train number 19168) in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning. He said that 22 bogies have derailed. Senior Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway (NCR) Shashikant Tripathi told PTI that the accident took place at 2.30 am late night. He said that there is no news of loss of life or property. The train was going from Varanasi to Ahmedabad. The train derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen railway station. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Railway officials said that the train driver has said that a boulder hit the engine. The engine’s cattle guard is badly damaged. Both Kanpur-Jhansi up and down tracks are affected.
Passenger said the train shook very hard
One of the passengers, Vikas, told PTI in a video that shortly after leaving Kanpur railway station, we heard a loud noise and the coach started shaking. I was very scared but the train stopped.
Railway Minister said – IB and UP police deployed
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav posted on Twitter that the engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad) collided with an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. IB and UP police are deployed. Work is also going on on this. There were no injuries to passengers or staff and the train was arranged for further journey to Ahmedabad.

(1) 05326 (Lokmanya Tilak Term – Gorakhpur) starting date of journey 16.08.24, route changed via Veerangna Laxmi Bai Jhansi-Gwalior-Bhind-Etawah-Kanpur Central.
