Former Mahant of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dr. Kulpati Tiwari passed away on Wednesday evening. He was ill for a long time. He breathed his last during treatment in a private hospital in Ravindrapuri. 75-year-old Kulpati Tiwari was suffering from neuro disease. On the other hand, his body was taken from the hospital to his private residence in Tedhi Neem. He was made the Mahant of Kashi Vishwanath Temple after the death of his father Kailashpati Tiwari in 1993. Since then, he was carrying out the traditions of Vishwanath Temple.
After schooling from Central Hindu School, Kulpati ji took B.Com and M.Com degrees from Kashi Hindu University. After M.Com education, he did PhD on the subject of structure and type of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. According to the information, his last rites will be performed at Manikarnika Ghat. Those who knew him say that Dr. Kulpati was a very soft-spoken and social person. He was also the president, patron and guide of many cultural and social organizations in Kashi and outside Kashi.
Born in Varanasi in 1954
Mahant of Vishwanath temple, Dr Kulpati Tiwari was born on 10 January 1954. Being an eloquent speaker, he was the leader of the Mahant family on all the policies and arrangements of Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple. After the acquisition of Kashi Vishwanath temple in 1983, he strongly opposed the government and government policies. Due to this, he had to go to jail. Former Mahant of Vishwanath temple, Dr Tiwari, even after the acquisition of the temple, used to participate very enthusiastically in all the festivals including Saman Ankush Mahotsav.
Dr Tiwari was suffering from neuro problems
For the past several months, Dr Tiwari was suffering from neuro problems. Suddenly his health deteriorated and people took him to the hospital but Dr Tiwari died. Varanasi MP and Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences on the death of Dr Kulpati Tiwari by tweeting. PM Modi wrote on the social media site X that the sad news of the death of former Mahant of Vishwanath temple, Dr Kulpati Tiwari was received. Doctor Kulpati ji served Baba Vishwanath with devotion for a long time and today he has merged in Baba’s feet.

The PM further wrote that his departure to Shivlok is an irreparable loss for Kashi. Along with the Prime Minister, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his condolences by tweeting. Yogi Adityanath wrote that the departure of former Mahant of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Shri Kulpati Tiwari ji to Golok is extremely sad. My humble tribute to him, my condolences are with the bereaved family. May Baba Shri Kashi Ji give a place to the pious soul in his lotus feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense sorrow.
