Kanpur. The cousins were doused with petrol and burnt alive while they were sleeping on Tuesday night. The incident took place in Kasigwan village of Sen West Para police station area. Late in the night, neighbors informed the police after seeing smoke and flames coming out of the room.
When the villagers reached inside after extinguishing the fire, the bodies of both the brothers had turned into skeletons. The forensic team confirmed that the fire was caused by petrol, on the basis of which it is believed that the incident was not an accident but a murder. The parents of one of the two youths who died had died years ago, hence the case is also being linked to a property dispute.
The father of the second youth has named two people accusing him of murder over land dispute and old enmity. The police have registered a case of murder against both of them and taken them into custody. PAC has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
Anil’s parents died in his childhood.
24-year-old Anil Chauhan, resident of Kasigwan, was living with his maternal grandmother in Lauri village of Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh due to the death of his father Hariram and mother Prabha in childhood. He lived in his maternal home till the age of 16 and then came to the village.
Being alone at home, he used to eat food at the house of his middle uncle Babu Chauhan and aunt Gaura who lived at some distance. Presently he used to work as cylinder supply in Bajrangi Gas Agency located in Yashoda Nagar.
Anil’s cousin brother Raj, 23, used to sleep with him at night. Raj’s father Prem Kumar told that at around 11 pm on Tuesday night, the son had gone to Anil after having dinner at home. Seeing smoke and flames coming out from the front room around 2 o’clock in the night, the neighbor informed the villagers and relatives.
Neighbors extinguished the fire
Neighbors controlled the fire within some time by using a submersible. When the villagers reached the room, the bodies of Anil and Raj were burnt. After some time, police and fire brigade also reached. Additional Police Commissioner Law and Order Harish Chander reached the spot with the forensic team.
Raj’s father told that Anil had a dispute with his elder uncle Badlu regarding land. He has kept his share of farming and possession of the house. Badlu’s younger son Vinod has threatened to kill him several times when he asks for his share.
At the same time, he told that his son Raj had a dispute with his neighbor Kalyan six months ago over spilling water in the street. Then Kalyan had threatened to kill him. It is alleged that Vinod and Kalyan, along with other associates, killed their son Raj and nephew Anil by burning them alive.
The condition of both the bodies could not be clarified in the post-mortem. Doctors have confirmed death due to burns. No bones are broken. However, there was nothing left in the body except the skeleton, so nothing much could be concluded.
A case of murder has been registered against Vinod and Kalyan. According to Additional Police Commissioner Law and Order Harish Chander, investigation is being done on both the murder and accident angles.
