India’s women’s compound team has created a new history by winning the gold medal in the ongoing World Archery Championship in Berlin, the capital of Germany. For the first time in the history of this tournament, India has managed to win the gold medal. This championship was organized for the first time in the year 1931. After this, from the year 1995, compound events were organized in it.
In the World Archery Championship, the Indian women’s team won the gold medal by defeating the Mexican team 235-229 in the final match of the compound event. The team that won India the gold medal included Jyoti Surekh, Vennam Preneet Kaur and Aditi Swami. At the same time, in the semi-finals, the team faced the Colombian team, which they defeated 220-216.
India participated for the first time in the World Archery Championship held in Italy in the year 1981. In the last championship held in the Netherlands in the year 2019, India won the medal in the recurve category. The event of Archery World Championship is organized every 2 years. Till now India has won silver medal 9 times and bronze medal 2 times in this championship.
Men’s team disappointed with their performance
Talking about the performance of the Indian men’s team in the World Archery Championship, after a hard-fought battle, it got eliminated from the tournament. In the quarter-final match, the Indian men’s team was defeated by the score of 230-235 against the Netherlands team. Abhishek Verma, Ojal Deotale and Prathamesh Javkar were participating from the Indian side. At the same time, in the mixed event also, the team got a close 154-153 defeat from America.
