Lucknow. New initiatives have been taken to keep adolescents away from drug use. Now CCTV cameras will be installed at the medicine shops of Uttar Pradesh. From time to time the CCTV footage at the medical stores will be checked by drug inspectors in the districts. If any medical store is caught giving medicines of Schedule H-1 and X without a doctor’s prescription, then strict action will be taken against them. Instructions have been given to install CCTV at the earliest. These steps are being taken on the instructions of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
A 14-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of DM in all the districts of Uttar Pradesh. This includes officers of Health, Police, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Excise and Social Welfare Department etc. This Joint Action Committee has been formed. Such medical stores which are selling Schedule H-1 and X medicines will be closely monitored with the help of CCTV cameras.
In fact, the drugs given to patients of other serious diseases including cancer to protect them from pain, contain morphine. It is used for intoxication. The doctor prescribes the prescribed dosage to the patient on the prescription. On the other hand, teenagers secretly consume excessive amounts of it without a prescription from the medical store for intoxication. In such a situation, this step is being taken to tighten the screws.
According to Director, Women Welfare Manoj Kumar Rai, instructions have been given to medical stores to install CCTV cameras. Liquor shops cannot even be opened near schools and colleges. It is to be known that in August 2021 itself, all the states were instructed by the NCPCR to take strict action to stop the use of drugs. On February 9, 2022, again a letter has been written to all the states on behalf of the President of NCPCR, Priyank Kanungo, asking for its details.
In the country, 272 types of drugs have been considered sensitive to drugs. According to Dinesh Kumar Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner (Pharmaceutics), Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, instructions have been given to all drug inspectors to ensure installation of CCTV cameras at medical stores at the earliest and send its report to the office. The help of its drug dealers’ association is also being taken.
