New Delhi. Team India defeated Ireland by 174 runs in the Under-19 World Cup being played in the West Indies. Let us inform that India’s Under-19 team captain Yash Dhul, vice-captain Sheikh Rashid and four of their teammates could not play in the Group-B match of the World Cup against Ireland on Wednesday due to Corona being positive. Apart from Dhul and Rashid, batsmen Aaradhya Yadav, Vasu Vats, Manav Parakh and Siddharth Yadav have also been found infected with the virus, due to which the Indian team could barely field 11 players against Ireland.
Batting first against Ireland, Team India had a great start. Fifties from opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi (79) and Harnoor Singh (88) and a 164-run partnership for the first wicket between the two put India 307 for five against Ireland in a Group B match of the Under-19 World Cup here on Wednesday. Scored a great run score. Apart from these, Raj Bawa (42) and Nishant Sindhu (36) made useful contributions. Rajvardhan Hengergekar finally scored an unbeaten 39 off 17 balls with five sixes and a four.
Chasing 308 runs, Ireland had the worst start. The team quickly lost the wickets of Liam Doherty (7) and Jack Dixon (0). Doherty was dismissed by Ravi Kumar, while Rajvardhan Hengergekar pavilioned Dixon. Ireland’s troubles increased when David Vincent (8) was run out in the seventh over of the innings and returned to the pavilion. This made the team’s score 17/3. Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals as India registered a massive 174-run victory in the end. Nathan McGuire and Scott Macbeth struggle a bit. Both added 39 runs for the seventh wicket. With this win, India have now registered a win in their opening two matches and will take on Uganda in their last match of the group stage on Saturday.
