Lucknow. Group Captain Varun Singh, a resident of Kanholi (Rudrapur) in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, has been seriously injured in an Army helicopter accident in Tamil Nadu. He was in the helicopter with Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. He is undergoing treatment at the Army Hospital in Tamil Nadu. 13 people including CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat have died in the accident. The crew was led by Varun Singh.
In the native village of Kanholi, Varun’s elder uncle Dinesh Pratap Singh and younger uncle Congress national spokesperson and former MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh got information about Varun’s boarding in the helicopter at around 3 pm on Wednesday. Akhilesh Pratap Singh told that at first nothing could be known about Varun, but when Varun’s wife Geetanjali was contacted through mobile phone, information was received about Varun’s severe burns. Varun was leading the helicopter crew. Geetanjali is with him in the hospital. Varuna has a son and a daughter. The family of mother Uma Singh, uncle Dinesh Pratap Singh, Umesh Pratap Singh, Ramesh Pratap Singh and Akhilesh Pratap Singh are worried. The people of the village are saddened by this accident. Everyone is wishing Varun a speedy recovery.
Became an officer in the Air Force after passing the NDA exam: Varun Singh’s early education was done in Orissa. After passing the NDA exam, he became an officer in the Air Force. His father Krishna Pratap Singh has retired as a colonel in the Army. Varun’s younger brother Tanuj Singh is an officer in the Indian Navy in Mumbai. His father Colonel Krishna Pratap Singh had gone to Mumbai with the younger son, where Varun was reported to have suffered serious burns in a helicopter crash.
President honored him with Shaurya Chakra on 15th August: President Ram Nath Kovind honored Varun with Shaurya Chakra on 15th August for his indomitable courage. He was flying with a light combat aircraft on 12 October 2020 when the flying control system malfunctioned. He was successful in getting the plane landing from a height of 10 thousand feet with intelligence.
