Mumbai. New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Ejaz Patel has etched his name in the history books in the Mumbai Test against India. Ejaz Patel has become the third bowler in the world to take 10 wickets in an innings of a Test cricket match. Ejaz Patel took all the ten wickets for 119 runs in the first innings against India in the second Test match being played at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday. Indian team had scored 325 runs.
As the cricket world and cricket fans started congratulating Ajaz Patel for his achievement, former India captain Anil Kumble, who himself named Perfect 10, welcomed him to the exclusive club. Anil Kumble himself became the second cricketer to achieve this rare feat. In a video shared with Star Sports, Kumble said, “Ejaz, congratulations. A great effort to get all 10 wickets. Welcome to the club. Congratulations on the first day of the Test match and getting it on the second day.”
The former India head coach continued, “It is indeed very special to achieve this feat on the first and second day, but enjoy the day, enjoy the opportunity and welcome to the club. Congratulations once again and your slow. It was wonderful to see a left handed orthodox. Great achievement mate and congratulations.” At the same time, Ejaz Patel said on seeing this video that I want to watch it again and again. Former England off-spinner Jim Laker was the first player in cricket history to achieve this feat in 1956, when he took 10 wickets in an innings against Australia at Manchester.
Anil Kumble had reached this milestone in 1999 against Pakistan in New Delhi before Mumbai-born Ejaz Patel showed up on Saturday. At the end of the second day’s play, India captain Virat Kohli, head coach Rahul Dravid and right-arm pacer Mohammad Siraj were seen walking towards the lobby of New Zealand’s dressing room and congratulated 33-year-old Ijaz for the incredible feat. . There will hardly be any person in the entire stadium who has not clapped on Ejaz’s achievement.
