Varanasi. On Wednesday, gold worth Rs 33 lakh 11 thousand 337 was found from a passenger who came by Air India flight from Sharjah at Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Varanasi. The traveler had brought the gold hidden in the pearl of the pendant attached to the women’s clothes.
Aircraft AIX-184 under Vande Bharat Mission arrived at Varanasi Airport at 7:40 am. The passengers coming from the plane were being thoroughly screened. On suspicion, custom officials stopped a passenger. Pendants used in women’s clothes were found from him. Gold was molded inside 130 pearls in them. The weight of the recovered gold was 682.750 grams. Its value was estimated to be around 33 lakh 11 thousand 337 rupees.
A traveler named Ramdhavan of Hata in Kushinagar was arrested and sent to jail. He had gone to Sharjah for a job five months ago. Assistant Commissioner of Customs Pradeep Kumar said that the traveler was sent to jail after gold was recovered over Rs 20 lakh. The gold has been confiscated.
