New Delhi. A big announcement was made by the Afghanistan Cricket Board on Tuesday. The Afghanistan Cricket Board, which has promoted different captains in different formats, has appointed star spinner Rashid Khan as the new captain of the T20 team. The ICC T20 World Cup is to be played in the UAE to be hosted by India in October-November. This change is considered very important before this big tournament.
On Tuesday, 6 June, the Afghanistan Cricket Board informed that Rashid Khan will be the captain of the T20 team while Najibullah Zadran will take over the responsibility of the vice-captain. Board chairman Farhan Yousafzai said that Rashid is a well-known face in the world and an important player of Afghanistan cricket. This responsibility has been given in view of their excellent performance and experience over the years.
Rashid is currently at number two in the ICC T20 bowling rankings. South Africa’s Tabrez is 31 points behind Shamsi, who is in first place. Afghanistan’s team has been given a place in Group B of the T20 World Cup. In this group, he will be accompanied by India, England, South Africa and the other two qualifier teams.
The Afghanistan team has shown a great game in the last few years. In the ICC T20 rankings, the team is currently ranked seventh above Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
