New Delhi. Former India selector Sarandeep Singh believes it was a huge mistake not to take “your best swing bowler” Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the tour of England. He also says that Shardul Thakur should have been part of the 15-man squad for the finals of the World Test Championship. Since Shardul Thakur was not a part of the 15-man squad, he could not be included in the playing XI as rain in Southapton made the pitch more favorable for the fast bowlers.
Sarandeep said it was a shocking decision not to pick Bhuvneshwar for the WTC final and the five Tests against England starting on August 4. Sarandeep Singh’s tenure ended with a win in Australia earlier this year. “There were two spinners in the selected playing XI two days before the game, but that should have been changed as the conditions had become conducive to fast bowling,” he said.
The former selector said, “You picked two spinners (R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja) because they can bat. The only fast bowler who could bat was Shardul Thakur and he was not in the last 15. Should have been in the team whether he was given a chance in the playing XI or not.” After getting fit again, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was made the vice-captain for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. At the same time, Sarandeep Singh has said that he considers this clever bowler an automatic choice for the UK tour.
“It is a big mistake not to take Bhuvi to England. He is the best swing bowler you have and he is not even part of the team,” he says. Regarding Shardul, Sarandeep Singh said, “Now you can’t just depend on Hardik Pandya. You don’t know when he will be fit to bowl in all formats, so someone like Shardul needs to be groomed or even There is also Vijay Shankar or Shivam Dubey.”
