New Delhi. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has criticized the England team as the hosts showed no intention to win the first match of the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Wasim Jaffer is also saddened by this, because England’s team was playing against New Zealand at their home ground and the runs per over were not even high, despite this the hosts played for a draw.
In fact, the third day of the Lord’s Test match was washed out in rain and on the last day of the match it seemed that the match could reach some conclusion, but at the end of the day the result came out in the form of a draw. If the England team had shown their intentions to win, then perhaps the result would have been possible, because the team had got a target of 273 runs to win in 75 overs, which the team did not consider it necessary to achieve.
On the other hand, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer lashed out at England by tweeting and wrote, “If you don’t even try to chase the target of 3.6 per over at home with no WTC points at stake, when will you try? Will it? This is not a good attitude for Test cricket.”
New Zealand declared their second innings at 169/6 in 52.3 overs. At the same time, the Kiwi team got a lead of 103 runs on the basis of first innings. In this way the hosts had to make 273 runs to win, but the team led by Joe Root played from the beginning to draw the match and after playing 70 overs, could make only 170 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. The match thus ended in a draw, which at least did not bode well for the purpose of promoting Test cricket.
