Dehradun. It has already become clear that a lake on the Rishiganga River was formed due to the rupture of the Hanging Glacier of Ranthay Hills. When this lake broke, it caused great destruction in the lower areas. Now another lake is being seen on this Rishiganga river. This was confirmed by the scientists of the Wadia Himalaya Geology Institute after a helicopter survey (aerial survey). However, due to the pictures taken from higher elevations, it is not clear what the actual size of the lake is.
According to Dr. Kalachand Sai, director of the Wadia Institute, the size of the lake is about 10 to 20 meters. The lake is still being built or is already built, it has not been known. If the lake is still built, its size may increase, or it may break soon. It is possible that the debris that came with the breaking of the Hanging Glacier may have remained in the middle. Lake construction is possible from that also. However, this type of debris can be raw and the river can be normal at any time. According to the Ariel pictures, there is not much water in the lake and there is nothing to fear. The size of the lake will also be monitored through remote sensing.
The lake is six km above the demolished Rishiganga project
According to Dr. Kalachand, director of the Wadia Institute, the lake which is seen is about six km above the destroyed Rishiganga project. This lake is also above Raini village. Information about the lake has been given to the state and central government.
A team of Wadia returned
After visiting the disaster-hit areas, a team from the Wadia Institute has returned to Doon, while a team is still there. The team that has returned, includes Dr. Sameer K. Tiwari, Dr. Amit Kumar and Dr. Akshay Verma. The team also collected samples of river water from different regions during the retreat. Sampling was done till Haridwar. So that through the study, it can be seen what is the condition of silt etc. in it. Similarly, the institute also has pre-sampled samples in low-lying areas. The difference between the two will also be explored.
