Dehradun. Rescue operations are underway to evacuate about 34 persons trapped in a tunnel of Tapovan-Vishnugad project following the daily devastation caused by the breaking of the glacier in Chamoli district. Teams of ITBP, SDRF, Army, District Administration are in operation. In the overnight operation, debris has been removed up to 130 meters from the tunnel. At the same time, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is conducting an aerial survey of the affected areas. Let us know that 173 people are still missing, while 26 bodies have been recovered so far. Out of a total of 202 missing persons and five persons returned safely on Monday. On the other hand, the Air Force started distributing relief material to disaster affected areas.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is taking stock of the situation in the affected areas due to the glacier disaster in Chamoli.
On February 7, CM Trivendra Rawat met 12 people who were evacuated from the tunnel in the hospital. The CM said that he complained of body ache, as he was hanging on an iron strip for 3-4 hours due to fear of water and debris. Doctors said that they will recover soon.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel rescued people trapped in the tunnel at Chamoli on 7 February.

CM reached to know the condition of the villagers
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat left from Joshimath Army Helipad to bring frontier village area. Due to the disaster, the road connectivity has been cut off from the villages of Rani Palli, Pang, Lata, Suraithota, Suki, Bhalgaon, Tolma, Fagarasu, Long Segdi, Gahar, Bhangule, Juvagwad, Jugaju. The Chief Minister himself arrived today to know the condition of the villagers.
Relief materials delivered to affected villages
A temporary helipad has been built in Lata village for relief operations. With its help, the civil administration provided ration packets to be distributed to the disaster affected villages Jugaju, Juvagw, seven km from Laata to ITBP. After this, the team reached the villages on foot and distributed relief material to the villagers.

Relief material is also being distributed in villages cut off from motorpolutes on Joshimath-Malari highway. An amount of 20 crores was released to Chamoli district to intensify relief and rescue operations. Union Ministers Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and RK Singh visited the affected areas. On the other hand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed the disaster relief work with senior officials at the secretariat on Monday. Late evening, the Chief Minister reached Tapovan and inspected the relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister will rest the night there only.
Rishiganga and Dhauliganga were in spate after the glacier broke on Sunday near Raini village in Chamoli district, bordering China. This is the second major accident after the Kedarnath water catastrophe in which the wrecked water caused great destruction. In this, the 13 MW Rishiganga power project was destroyed, while the 520 MW Tapovan-Vishnugad project barrage was damaged.
In addition, five bridges including the bridge connecting the China border at Rani on Joshimath-Malari highway were broken. In this disaster, bodies of 13 persons were found daily, while 12 persons trapped in a tunnel of a Tapovan-Vishnugad project were saved safely. About 34 people are feared trapped in the second tunnel. To save them, the operation has been going on since last day. 13 bodies were recovered daily. 11 more bodies were recovered on Monday. The 26 dead bodies found so far have not been identified.
Riddhim Agarwal, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the State Disaster Management Authority, said that five people who escaped from the disaster were safe on Monday. A total of 32 persons have been reported safe so far, including 12 persons rescued from the tunnel.
Details of missing persons
The missing persons include six from Raini village, 115 from Tapovan Ritvik Company, two from Karchau village, two from Ringi village, 46 from Rishiganga company, 21 from Om Mattel company, three from HCC, two from Tapovan village.
