Chandigarh Punjabi actor-turned-social activist Deep Sidhu, whose name has surfaced in Delhi violence on Republic Day, has reportedly gone missing. He was last seen on January 26 amidst a crowd of farmers who had reached the Red Fort in violation of the planned route of the tractor march. Sidhu is alleged to have incited the protesters to hoist the religious flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort. There has been no trace of him since the allegations of inciting people to establish Nishan Sahib, a symbol of Sikhism.
Sidhu is also said to be close to actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sunny Deol. He told the Red Fort during a Facebook Live, “We have just hoisted the Nishan Sahib flag on the Red Fort, exercising our democratic right to protest.”
He also said that the national flag has not been removed from the Red Fort.
In another video, Sidhu is seen running from the Red Fort on a bike.
Sidhu, the main accused in the Delhi violence, along with gangster-turned-social activist Lakkha Sidhana, has also been made the main accused.
Sidhana has turned a criminal-turned-politician and was acquitted in many cases before contesting the 2012 assembly elections. He contested as a candidate for the People’s Party of Punjab, led by Manpreet Singh Badal, who is currently the Finance Minister in the Congress government in Punjab.
Farmer leaders have now kept distance from both Sidhu and Sidhana.
However, in his recent video, Sidhu accused the leaders of the farmers union for taking decisions and defending themselves without consulting the people, “I see wrong propaganda and hatred being spread against me.”
He said, “Thousands of people had reached there (Red Fort), but none of the peasant leaders were present there. No one has committed violence and damaged any public property. They have used Nishan Sahib to register their protest and A farmer hoisted the flag. ”
On being told by the leaders of the Kisan Union that he is a man of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he said that only a true person will hoist the flag on the Red Fort.
He said, “You are calling me an RSS man, a BJP man. Will an RSS man hoist the flag on the Red Fort? Think about it. Will a Congressman be able to do this? No. Only a pure and honest person will do it. . ”
In a video, he clarified that he has not run anywhere and Singh is on the border.
Born in 1984 in Muktsar district of Punjab, Sidhu is associated with the movement against three controversial agricultural laws.
His first Punjabi film ‘Ramta Jogi’ was released in 2015. Her second film ‘Zora Das Numberia’ was a hit in 2018.
