Canberra | Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Friday that the country had successfully defeated the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic. According to the report, his announcement came after a meeting of the National Cabinet, which included the Prime Minister and state and region leaders. During this time they discussed Australia’s response to the epidemic.
After the meeting, he told reporters that “we have defeated the third wave of Kovid that started with a transition group in Sydney.”
He said the ban on international arrivals in Australia would not be lifted until 15 February.
Arrivals in New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland were banned in January in response to the threat of mutant Kovid-19 strains.
Australia has registered zero new cases of community broadcasting in the last five days.
More than 35,000 Australian residents or citizens stranded abroad have registered to return to the country.
The national cabinet also discussed Australia’s vaccine program on Friday, which is scheduled to begin in February.
Morrison said, “I think we need to be clear about expectations here and be very careful. We know that we have to start on a small scale before we go to a very large scale.”
So far, 28,755 cases of infection and 909 deaths have been reported in Australia.
