Jaipur . The wait for six months to form a new team in the Rajasthan unit of the Congress came to an end when party general secretary K.K. C. Venugopal announced the names of 39 functionaries. Till now the state unit had only its president Govind Singh Dotasara.
The camp of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has been given equal importance in the newly formed team. The new team consists of seven vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and 24 secretaries.
The vice-presidents include veteran leaders Govind Ram Meghwal, Harimohan Sharma, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Mahendrajit Singh Malviya, Nasim Akhtar ‘Insaf’, Rajendra Chaudhary and Ramlal Jat, while the general secretaries include GR Khatana, Hakeem Ali, Lakhan Meena, Mangilal Garasia, Prashant Bairwa, Rakesh Pareek, Rita Chaudhary and Ved Prakash Solanki.
The party’s Rajasthan unit was disbanded following a pilot rebellion last July. He had called for a leadership change and was eventually stripped of his post of deputy CM and head of state.
Rajasthan in-charge Ajay Maken had announced that the new team would be formed by 31 December, but was delayed due to discontent between Gehlot and the pilot camps.
Gehlot tweeted and thanked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and wished the best for the new team.
He wrote for the new team, “I am confident that you will carry all the policies, ideologies and principles of the Congress to every village under the leadership of Govind Singh Dotasara.”
