United Nations | India has expressed concern over the possibility of terrorists possessing chemical weapons and called for global action against them.
India’s permanent representative at the UN Security Council session on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, T.S. Thirumurthy said, “India is worried about the possibility of such weapons being in the hands of terrorist organizations or people. Terrorist groups have taken advantage of a decade-long conflict in Syria, posing a threat to the entire region. The world. Can’t afford to let these terrorists do what they want. ”

Tirumurthy said, “India is strongly opposed to the use of chemical weapons anywhere, at any time, by anyone and under any circumstances. We strongly condemn the use of such weapons and believe that their use Can have no justification. ”
This session of the council took place virtually and India made its first official statement after joining the body as a non-permanent member a month ago.
He added, “In our view, politicizing this issue will not be beneficial for anyone. We should resolve the problem by consulting between all the concerned parties. Allegations of use of chemical weapons in Syria and investigations conducted in this regard India has consistently called for a fair investigation. ”
Tirumurthy said, “We encourage cooperation between Syria and the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW (Organization for Prevention of Chemical Weapons) for early resolution of all issues. India contributed US $ 1 million to the OPCW Trust Fund In order to prevent destructive activities in Syria from the use of chemical weapons. ”
At the session, the United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Ijumi Nakamitsu gave information about Syria’s implementation of the proposal necessary to destroy chemical weapons as per OPCW’s plan.
Nakamitsu said that the international community is not confident that Syria’s chemical weapons program is completely over because Damascus has not provided any data yet.
