United Nations | India launched its two-year term as a non-permanent member in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Along with this, India’s tricolor hoisted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Monday during a special ceremony. India’s permanent representative in the United Nations, T.S. “This is a proud moment for my country and for my delegation.”
He said, India is the largest democracy representing the sixth part of humanity in the Security Council. India is committed to multilateralism, rule of law, a fair and just international system and peace, security and development. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, we stand together for democracy, pluralism and commitment to fundamental rights.
Referring to the speech given by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at UNGA last year, he said, India will be a voice for developing countries.
India will preside over the UNSC in August 2021 and again in 2022. The UNSC is chaired by each member for a month. Apart from India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway joined UNSC as non-permanent members.
