Patna . Hindustani Awam Morcha (Hum) Secular chief Jitan Ram Manjhi was elected the leader of its four-member legislative party. All the newly elected MLAs of ‘Hum’, who reached Manjhi’s residence here, chose the former Chief Minister as the leader of the party Legislature Party. Manjhi was honored by the leaders and activists of the ‘Ham’ for the party’s superior performance in the Bihar Assembly elections. Manjhi is the lone MLA of ‘Hum’ in the outgoing assembly. Later, talking to reporters, Manjhi advised the newly elected Congress MLAs to join the NDA for the progress of the state.
Manjhi said, personally, as far as I believe, we will say that Congress MLAs should consider and support Nitish ji. In the year 1980, Manjhi started his political career from the Congress. Later he moved to RJD and then to JDU. Taking the moral responsibility of the JDU’s worst defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Manjhi was appointed to this post after Nitish resigned as Chief Minister. Later, after being expelled from JDU to pave the way for Nitish Kumar’s return to this post, Manjhi formed a new party called Hindustani Awam Morcha Secular and was in the first opposition grand alliance of Bihar Assembly elections 2020.
Manjhi broke away from the alliance and joined the NDA before the election, after his demand for a coordination committee in the grand alliance was not met. Under the seat-sharing in the NDA, the JDU gave seven seats to the ‘Ham’ out of its 122 seats, of which his party won four seats. Manjhi said that once he becomes the Chief Minister of the state, he will no longer be a minister in the new government headed by Nitish Kumar.
