new Delhi . For the second time this week, the region’s air quality index was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category due to light mist covering the national capital on Thursday. East Delhi district recorded the highest pollution. Delhi’s air quality index was recorded at 320 in the afternoon, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.
The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), under the aegis of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, reported good air quality in the 0-50 range, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301 -400 is classified as very poor and more than 400 in severe category.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, out of Delhi’s 36 pollution monitoring stations, 25 stations have air quality index recorded in ‘very poor’ category, eight stations have recorded the index in ‘poor’ category, one has ‘moderate’ ‘Category entered, while two were not working.
The pollution monitoring station in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area recorded the most polluted air at 373, followed by 361 in Shadipur and 357 in Patparganj and Mundka regions. Lodhi Road recorded the lowest air quality index.
The air quality in the neighboring areas of Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida was also very poor. The air of Greater Noida was the most polluted among them all.
Air quality is very poor in 15 cities across the country. Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat tops the list, followed by Bhiwadi, Greater Noida, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, etc. in Rajasthan.
