new Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the residence of late leader Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday and paid tribute to him. Ram Vilas Paswan died in a private hospital here on Thursday. He was 74 years old and was the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the Central Government. The mortal remains of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder Ram Vilas Paswan were brought from the hospital to his residence at 12 Janpath here on Friday morning, where the Prime Minister paid tribute to him.
The Prime Minister consoled the late leader’s son and LJP national president Chirag Paswan and his bereaved family.
President Ramnath Kavind also reached the residence of Ram Vilas Paswan and paid tribute to him.
Born in Shahbanni village of Khagaria district of Bihar, Ram Vilas Paswan was active in politics for more than five decades. His body will be taken from here to Patna where he will be cremated on Saturday.
In Patna, his body will be kept in the LJP office, where people will pay their last respects to their leader.
Apart from the Prime Minister, several other leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad, Giriraj Singh also paid floral tributes to the LJP leader.
The 74-year-old Ram Vilas, who completed 50 years in active politics last year, was first elected as an MLA in 1969.
A few days before Paswan’s death, Chirag Paswan decided to quit the NDA in Bihar and contest the assembly elections on his own.
One of the prominent Dalit leaders of the country, Ram Vilas Paswan has been a minister in the Narendra Modi government, has been a minister in the UPA-1 government led by Manmohan Singh as well as in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Center.
Born on July 5, 1946 in Khagaria district of Bihar, Paswan was elected to the police service, but decided to join politics.
