new Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written to all village heads and sarpanches to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission effectively. Prime Minister Modi has told in the letter how this mission has created history through public participation. This mission will not only solve the problem of water supply, but will also help in dealing with water borne diseases like cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, encephalitis, typhoid etc. When animals are provided safe and clean drinking water, it not only improves their health, but also improves their productivity. In this way the income of the families also improves.
The Prime Minister appealed to the people and the Gram Panchayats to make Jal Jeevan Mission a mass movement.
Prime Minister Modi has written this letter at a time when the country is taking steps towards becoming self-sufficient with fighting the corona epidemic. The letter mentions the efforts made by the central government in the last six years to provide road, housing, toilets, gas connections, electricity, bank account and pension to all the people. The Prime Minister spoke of how the Jal Jeevan Mission has emerged as a program in which the role of planning, implementation, operation and maintenance lies in the village communities through which the availability of drinking water can be reached to every household. .
Prime Minister Modi highlighted how the scarcity of water adversely affects women and children. Prime Minister Modi in the letter appealed to women to play a leading role in water management.
He said that the central and state governments can only play the role of a facilitator in the scheme. Water life mission is also a means of generating employment in rural areas. This mission has been given priority under the Poor Kalyan Rojgar Yojana for migrant workers who have returned home due to Corona virus epidemic.
The Water Life Mission is being implemented in partnership with the states, which aims to provide drinking water to every rural household in the country by 2024. In the last one year, tap water connections have been provided in more than 2.30 crore households across the country. Presently, 5.50 crore households are receiving safe tap water in their homes.
