Lausanne | The Torch Relay of the Tokyo Olympic Games will begin on March 25, 2021 at the J Village Training Center in the Fukushima Peninsula and will travel through all 47 provinces of Japan for 121 days. It was announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Tokyo Olympic Games were originally scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 9 this year, but due to the corona virus, it was postponed until 2021 and is now scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 next year.
The IOC said the torch will arrive at Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium on July 9 and will be held for the opening ceremony on July 23. The IOC also said that no changes will be made to the route and schedule of the Torch Relay for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Tokyo 2020 organizers have said that the Olympic torchbearers will be given priority to run in next year’s relay. Around 10,000 torch bearers are expected to participate in the event.
