54.83 percent voting took place in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday in eight parliamentary constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. The seats where voting took place in this phase are Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh and Mathura. The fate of 91 candidates from different political parties including BJP’s Hema Malini from Mathura, Arun Govil from Meerut and Danish Ali was sealed in EVMs. Now their fate will be decided with the election results on June 4.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that voting in UP was conducted peacefully. He said that to ensure free and fair voting, webcasting was done at 8,852 polling places and videography was done at 967.
He said that after the start of voting till 5 pm, a total of 48 ballot units, 48 control units and 208 VVPATs were changed. Till 6 pm, 64.02 percent voting was recorded in Amroha. After this, 58.70 percent voting took place in Meerut, 55.97 percent in Baghpat, 49.65 percent in Ghaziabad, 53.06 percent in Gautam Buddh Nagar, 55.79 percent in Bulandshahr, 56.62 percent in Aligarh and 49.29 percent in Mathura.
Voting ended at 6 pm and final voting figures will be released later. There are more than 1.67 crore voters, 7,797 polling stations and 17,704 polling booths in these eight parliamentary constituencies.

Among the 91 candidates in the fray are actor-turned-politician Hema Malini, who is contesting from Mathura for the third time on a BJP ticket, and actor Arun Govil, who is contesting from Meerut. Danish Ali of Congress is contesting from Amroha.
In Mathura Lok Sabha constituency, people from eight villages had initially boycotted voting complaining of poor infrastructure and other issues, but the process was later resumed.

State Cabinet Minister Laxmi Narayan Choudhary said that voting resumed after a short gap in Devpura village under Chhata assembly constituency. SDM Govardhan Neelam Srivastava claimed that villagers of Konai and Bandpura villages boycotted voting for about five hours, but it resumed after the intervention of the administration.
A woman died at the booth in Amroha
Voting could not start in the primary school of Chhotabas village of Pahasu area in Bulandshahr due to absence of villagers due to non-construction of road. BJP candidate Hema Malini told reporters that she is hopeful that people will vote in favor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the second phase of voting, a woman died at the Shivdwar East Secondary School booth in Amroha. Officials said that Aamna Khatoon (70), resident of Mohalla Shiv, died as soon as she came out of the polling booth. District Magistrate Rajesh Tyagi has expressed regret over the incident.
