new Delhi. Ten Union Trade Unions have supported nationwide protests on 25 September by farmers and agricultural laborers on Monday. Two agricultural bills passed in Parliament are being opposed by farmers and agricultural laborers. That is why they are going to hold a nationwide protest on 25 September. The ten central trade associations say that the BJP government should stop anti-agriculture measures.
The Union Trade Union said in a joint statement, ‘The Central Trade Union and Regional Union’s Joint Forum have announced their continued support for this initiative of a joint platform of farmers and agricultural workers. The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee has organized a nationwide protest on 25 September 2020.
The joint statement further said, “We are also with them in protest against the disastrous Electricity Amendment Bill 2020”. The ten trade associations include NTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC.
The Rajya Sabha on Sunday passed the two major agricultural bills, which the government termed as the biggest reform in agriculture.
The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Simplification) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Agreements Bill on Agricultural Services, 2020 have already been passed by the Lok Sabha and will now be referred to the President. After this they will be notified as law.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called it a “historic moment” in the history of Indian agriculture. He said that these bills will ensure a complete transformation in the agricultural sector and will accelerate efforts to double the income of farmers.
